Context

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, in collaboration with UNICEF India, launched TALASH, a national-level program focused on fostering holistic development, career clarity, and life skills among tribal students studying in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs).


What is TALASH?

  • Full Form: Tribal Aptitude, Life Skills, and Self-Esteem Hub
  • A digital platform dedicated to supporting tribal students in self-discovery, life skills development, and career planning.
  • Launched by: National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) in partnership with UNICEF India
  • Nodal Ministry: Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India
  • First such initiative exclusively for tribal youth across India.

Objectives of TALASH

  • Promote self-awareness and personality development
  • Support career planning through aptitude-based assessment
  • Build life skills like emotional intelligence, decision-making, and communication
  • Train EMRS teachers to mentor students effectively

Key Features

1. Psychometric Testing

  • Based on NCERT’s Tamanna model
  • Evaluates student aptitude and generates personalised Career Cards

2. Career Counselling Modules

  • Provides information on suitable career paths
  • Aligns interests, aptitude, and aspirations for better career choices

3. Life Skills and Self-Esteem Training

  • Modules focus on:
    • Confidence building
    • Emotional well-being
    • Conflict resolution and value-based development

4. Teacher Training Portal

  • 189 teachers from 75 EMRSs already trained
  • Promotes peer-led capacity building across the tribal education ecosystem

5. Phased National Rollout

  • Aims to cover 1.38 lakh+ tribal students across 28 States and 8 Union Territories by end of 2025
  • City-level pilot projects ensure smooth and scalable implementation

  • Bridges the academic, emotional, and aspirational gap in tribal education
