Context
The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), in partnership with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has launched the Maha MedTech Mission to strengthen India’s medical technology ecosystem.
About the Mission
Full Form: Mission for Advancement in High-Impact Areas (MAHA)–MedTech
It is a national initiative to promote innovation, manufacturing, and commercialization of advanced medical technologies in India. The mission aims to make healthcare more affordable, accessible, and self-reliant by developing indigenous devices and diagnostics.

Objectives
- Reduce India’s dependence on high-cost imported medical equipment.
- Build strong domestic R&D and manufacturing capacity in medical technology.
- Support innovations addressing national health priorities such as tuberculosis, cancer, maternal and child health, and neonatal care.
- Ensure affordable access to quality medical devices and diagnostics for all.
Key Features
- Funding Support:
- ₹5–25 crore per project; up to ₹50 crore for exceptional proposals.
- Available to startups, MSMEs, academic institutions, hospitals, and industry collaborations.
- Broad Scope:
- Development of devices, diagnostics, implants, AI/ML tools, robotics, and assistive technologies.
- Enabling Frameworks:
- Patent Mitra – support for intellectual property and patent filing.
- MedTech Mitra – guidance for regulatory approvals.
- Clinical Trial Network – facilitates product validation and testing.
- Selection Process:
- Stage 1: Submission of concept notes (Sept–Nov 2025).
- Stage 2: Full proposals invited from Dec 2025.
