The Commonwealth Sport Executive Board (2025) has proposed Ahmedabad, Gujarat, as the host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games, marking India’s potential return as host after 20 years.

About the Event:
The Commonwealth Games is an international multi-sport event held every four years, bringing together athletes from 56 Commonwealth nations. It symbolizes friendship, unity, and peace among member countries. The 2030 edition will celebrate 100 years since the first Games in Hamilton, Canada (1930).
Host City Recommendation:
Ahmedabad has been recommended over Nigeria’s Abuja as the preferred host city. The final decision will be announced at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow on November 26, 2025.
Selection Process:
The final choice will be made by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) through a member vote, based on parameters like infrastructure, governance, athlete experience, and technical preparedness.
Historical Background:
The event began as the British Empire Games in 1930 and was renamed the Commonwealth Games in 1978. India previously hosted the Games in 2010 in New Delhi, a major milestone in the nation’s sporting history.
