Context: Indian Railways has launched the country’s first removable solar panel system installed between railway tracks.

What It Is

• A 70-metre-long solar setup with 28 removable panels generating 15 KWp power.
• Installed between railway tracks to make efficient use of space.
• Commissioned in August 2025 at Banaras Locomotive Works, Varanasi.

Purpose

• Promote green and sustainable transport.
• Generate clean energy from unused railway track space.
• Reduce dependence on fossil fuels and cut emissions.
