Context: Indian Railways has launched the country’s first removable solar panel system installed between railway tracks.
What It Is
- A 70-metre-long solar setup with 28 removable panels generating 15 KWp power.
- Installed between railway tracks to make efficient use of space.
- Commissioned in August 2025 at Banaras Locomotive Works, Varanasi.
Purpose
- Promote green and sustainable transport.
- Generate clean energy from unused railway track space.
- Reduce dependence on fossil fuels and cut emissions.
