Sakura Science Programme

Context:
A group of 34 Indian students has been flagged off to Japan to participate in the Sakura Science Programme 2025.
What is the Programme?
- Officially called the Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science.
- Run by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
- Started in 2014 by Japan; India joined in 2016 and has been a regular participant.
- Involves countries from Asia and Africa such as India, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zambia.
Aim of the Programme
- Promote scientific curiosity and a global outlook among students.
- Encourage cultural exchange and strengthen ties with Japan.
- Provide exposure to Japan’s scientific progress and cultural traditions.
- Build a network of young innovators and leaders across countries.

- Hands-on learning in science, technology, and innovation.
