Why In News: NAVYA
The Government of India is launching a pilot initiative ‘NAVYA’ in Uttar Pradesh to skill adolescent girls under the Viksit Bharat@2047 Vision.
About NAVYA Initiative:
- Full Form: Nurturing Aspirations through Vocational Training for Young Adolescent Girls
- A pilot programme to provide vocational training to girls aged 16–18 years.
- Aimed at promoting economic independence, career aspirations, and gender inclusion.
Ministries Involved:
- Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD)
- Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE)
Objectives:
- To empower adolescent girls with market-relevant skills.
- To encourage participation in non-traditional job roles.
- To promote self-reliance and economic empowerment.
- To reduce the gender gap in employment sectors.
Key Features:
- Target Group: Girls aged 16–18 years with minimum Class 10 qualification.
- Coverage: 27 districts across 19 states, including Aspirational Districts and North-Eastern States.
- Uses existing skill schemes:
- Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)
- PM Vishwakarma Yojana
- Certification under PMKVY for improved employability.
- Strong institutional convergence between MWCD and MSDE.
- Includes interactive sessions and certificate distribution during the pilot launch.
Significance:
- Bridges the gender gap in non-traditional skills and sectors.
- Targets underserved and vulnerable groups.
- Promotes women-led development under Viksit Bharat@2047.
- Enhances girls’ participation in nation-building and inclusive economic growth.
